Electric bill

I'm in a bit of a panic. My electricity supplier was sending bills to my home, but it was to owner/occupier. I never had an account with this company. I was with a different company, however, there was a mix up with meters and my original company closed my account and this other company have billed me instead.

I have rung this new company numerous times and they have said l don't have an account with them and to ignore the bills. I got my meter checked and they do supply my electricity. I have no issue paying a bill if they do supply me. My concern is my credit rating. I rang the today, they apologised for their mix up so l gave my details for the bill and agreed to pay it off over a number of months. They then advised that the debt will be a separate payment from the bill but l am really worried incase it will affect me getting a mortgage in the future. Should l pay the bill in full with my credit card instead? Any advice welcome as l am very worried as l pay all my bills on time.
