Credit card limit

I don’t use my credit card much and have always kept the limit lowish - £2,000.

i am about to start a big renovation project so will be increasing the limit for big purchases (which I do have the cash for but I want the protection for large electrical appliances etc).

just wanted to see what other people have as limits - to be honest I though £2k was pretty average until it flagged on my credit score as being low!

Mine is £5500. That's what I was given. Never spent anywhere near that.

If you have the cash to pay back your purchases open an American Express Platinum account, eye watering Apr (doesn't matter if you pay back the bill in full though), they tend to give very high credit limits, mine is 10k but more importantly it gives 5% cashback for the first six months then a smaller % afterwards. The only other downside is it isn't accepted everywhere but I get around that by having it linked to my PayPal account and pay online through that if necessary.

Wow I must looking into the American Express.

I will book flights etc using the card - for the protection which has been brilliant.

Thank you all

Be careful. If you pay through PayPal you can lose your section 75 protection, unless you are using PayPal credit.

Crikey mines £18k. I was refurbishing a couple of houses in 2013/14 and every time I paid for something expensive they raised the limit.

We have two, ones limit is £13k and the other is £9k. We usually keep the balances around £2k on each and one of them we don’t actually use at all, we just pay off some of the balance each month and keep it open for emergencies as it has such a high limit on it. The other one we just used to buy a holiday for next year on as it had a 0% offer. It’s all crazy really as we’re not a high income family at all; mainly manage through dhs low wage and disability benefits! But we do have a mortgage free house so I guess maybe that counts in terms of seeing us as reliable?! Who knows.

Mine is £6k…I use if for holidays and trips only….these are paid off straight away….I don’t think the limit has ever been increased
