I’m trying to sort out my pension. I am the only earner so pension will have to cover DH and I and had DS v v late so will need to support him through uni

whats a reasonable, manageable annual pension. We’re not particularly extravagant would downsize and like to travel and eat out now and then

Work out what you would spend in today's money. Keep in mind that you may not have a mortgage by this stage.

Then inflate the amount by a measure of inflation, each year.

I found this article helpful How much will you need to retire?

HermioneWeasley · 23/05/2022 15:53

As others have said, work out what you want you annual income in retirement to be.

a very rough rule of thumb, assuming you have a defined contribution scheme, is C£350k of capital to generate C£10k per annum retirement income.

Is DH up to date with any NI credits he’s due? Worth getting a forecast for his state pension (yours too) and seeing if anything can be done there to maximise this before retirement.
