ESA support group and UC LCWRA

Hi
I’m helping a friend who is unwell with ESA and UC credit claims.

I understand that anything awarded by ESA will then be deduced from UC.

My friend is likely to be put in the ESA support group and get the additional LCWRA payment. My question is, will the LCWRA payment be counted when deducting ESA, or is it additional and unaffected?

many thanks

Universal Credit can be made up of various elements, but is paid as one total amount. Any ESA will be deducted pound for pound from that total amount, whatever it is and whatever elements it comprises.

@flourella thank you, that’s really helpful.

Uc award would be made up of standard element, LCWRA element when awarded and rent element if they have rent to pay. Claiming ESA alongside Uc would mean they would only receive the assessment rate of ESA to begin with and this would be deducted from UC on a monthly basis. Then once assessed if awarded support group of ESA, the ESA amount would rise, so the deduction for ESA would rise and LCWRA would be added on.

LCWRA

I received my LCWRA letter on the 20th of June 2022 stating that I no longer have to look for work etc and qualify for LCWRA.
Do I have to wait 3 months from the 20th of June for first payment or is the 3 month period taken from my first submitted sick/fit note?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The LCWRA element is paid from the fourth full Uc assessment period after you first handed in sick notes.

I'm daft, and have brain fog so I appoligise!
Would that be soon then since I handed in my first fit note in over 4 months ago and got my letter saying I'm getting LCWRA On the 20th of June 2022. Babyroobs sorry for the hassle and I greatly appreciate you speedy response 🙏
