UC advice needed as totally confused

I have a few questions I just can’t find the answer to and wondered can anyone help ?

1). If one parent is already a carer for the dc and other parent works but they decide to both not work (2 dc get dla) does the parent not currently claiming CA need to put that claim in and receive CA before they apply for UC?

2). under ctc the 2 child limit doesn’t apply for older dc so we get child element for 3 of the children - will that continue on UC or will we only get for 2 of them ?

  1. how difficult is the process? Will
we have to have an in person appt and how long does it take ? Or is It all online ?

  2. should the currently working parent give up work and claim immediately or do we need to wait till the next month or a certain time after last wage?

thanks so much

People can claim the carers element of Uc without claiming carers allowance.

  1. No they do not need to claim carers allowance before claiming UC but when they make the UC claim they should declare themselves a carer on the application form..
  2. You can claim child element of UC for all 3 that you currently get CTC for.
  3. You apply online. Sometimes you are able to do all the verification process online but may be called to an appointment if not. It is managed via a journal and you need to keep an eye on your 'to do ' list as they may ask you to send additional information like tenancy agreement etc.
  4. Wait a good few days after last wages have been paid before applying.

Op this is a great calculator and can save you a long wait to see the CAB.

Have a play with it. Put in the various different circumstances. (CA/no CA, ctc/etc) and it will tell you what you need to do.
