Eligible if child's dad earns significant amount (more than 60k) but separated? In this scenario the mum would be financially independent from him.

If it is a single parent household for the mother, she gets child benefit.

It’s based on whoever is living in the household that receives the child benefit. So if it’s just the mum, who earns under £50k, then no problem. However if the mum is now cohabiting with a new partner, their income also counts so if they earn more than £50k they will need to do a tax return and pay back some or all of the child benefit, even though it’s not their child.
