Is this a Gumtree scam?

Can anyone advise? I'm selling a fridge on Gumtree at a decent price. I've received an asking price offer from a Polish guy who has asked me to confirm my name and phone number as he needs to fill out a form for the shipping company and courier. I said that we would need a cleared payment before we would part with the goods and he has replied "you will receive money on your card as soon as you confirm the delivery form"

Is it at all possible that this is not a scam? 🙈. It's sounding dodgy. Buying a fridge from the UK to transport to Poland is crazy, right, even though he said it would fit perfectly with his 'retro decor' 😳

Yes, absolute nonsense. Tell him to jog on and block. No one is buying a fridge from the UK to ship to Poland, not even a Smeg one.

Hmmm, thought it looked too good to be true ☹️. He's now sent me a link (which I haven't opened) asking me to confirm the details on the form and saying his money is frozen and waiting for me.

Dodgy as anything. When I sell on gumtree it’s cash on collection only. Too many scammers out there especially now when so many people are struggling financially

CornishPorsche · 04/05/2022 12:06

Yeah, don't click a link. Block and move on!

Thanks everyone

Good grief, I was also selling a much cheaper fridge (we've just moved house, I don't make a habit of collecting fridges 😂) and now a German guy has messaged me about that one, saying he would like to arrange for a courier to collect it, I'll receive money into my account on collection blah, blah, blah. What is wrong with people?

They aren't likely to be real Polish or German scammers - have a look 401 scams.

Scam!!!! My brother sells on gumtree all the time and add time he will get this exact saying “ we need to sort a form for courier etc and one even said my brother would have the pay £1something to the collection guy hahah as if … jog on scammers

caringcarer · 04/05/2022 23:31

Cash on collection only. Don't clink on links they might have a virus.

catwithflowers · 05/05/2022 06:09

Thanks everyone! I've now sold the item for cash to someone who lives quite locally.

DP has been selling a few things on FB marketplace and getting people messaging him saying "I'm looking for something like this" and posting a link. He hasn't opened them but it's very clear it's a scam or a virus or something sinister. This has happened a few times including for an old wooden tv unit (that nobody is looking for!). They'll definitely succeed in getting some people to click the link. I hate people like this Angry
