I had full 50k in PB for approx. 5 years and won much less than £500 (1%) every year. Now I get at least 8K tax free every year on average and more each year. I opened a tax free stocks and shares ISA and invested in a few global ETFs (took 3 years to get it all in as only 20k allowed per year). Over a period of 10 years I have earned an average of approx. 8k a year. You should expect approx. 10% a year compound though it is less than that this year but should recover. I still have 5k in PBs just in case though! I don't understand why everyone doesn't do this as it just takes 30 minutes online to do and anyone can do it (Barclays, Hargreaves Lansdowne, Interactive Investor, Bell, etc.). So it's your choice... 5K gain with PBs (less than inflation!) after 10 years or 80K gain after 10 years...

Not really sure why you presume these are are only pots of money. Or that we don’t know how to invest and that it’s a lack of knowledge that keeps people buying premium bonds.

the majority of mine is for a tax bill I will need to pay this year. I don’t want it in long term investments. Plus there’s a chance that money could win me a large amount.

it’s easy access, could out perform your 80k over 10 years, I like the lottery aspect a lot and it’s short term.

My investments are an entirely different aspect of my financial planning.

My kids PBS are mainly financed by their grandparents and have been for 18 years. Again in addition to what I have set up for them.

You also have to remember that being able to investments and enough money to make 8k a year is something a lot of people don’t have.

Surprisingly 4x £25 this month on £43k. That's £725 since January. Won every month so far this year. My luck had to run out soon though, right?

Theforest · 02/06/2022 09:56

Oooh 4x £25 for me this time. Yay!!

Forgotmypasswordsgain · 02/06/2022 10:00

£25 again for me this month, that’s £200 so far this year on 40k, happy with that.

steve6375 · 02/06/2022 10:06

I appreciate that other people may have other investments and also some people like the thrill of a draw each month (except you are not in the draw for first month). For example, if they are bought in November, then they’ll be in every draw from the following January.

That's amazing, think you are getting all my prizes too Grin

ChessieFL · 02/06/2022 10:16

Nothing for me this month but I expected that - I took half of my holding out in May as I thought I would need it for moving related expenses. Annoyingly things have been delayed so I could have left it all in there until after the June draw!

Chewbecca · 02/06/2022 10:21

Steve, thanks for the mansplanation.

We got £100 on about £60k.

(I won't tell you about the irrelevant return on my ISA or pension - both maxxed).

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2022 10:27

I’ve got £100k invested in stocks and shares. Used to make good money but since Covid it’s been down to £92k and is currently at £96k. I’m tempted if it gets back up to £100k to take it out and put it in a bank until the economy settles.

I love my Bonds as they don’t go down.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/06/2022 10:31

For me it’s the thrill of what if

i have nowhere near £50k not ever likely unless win £50k on pb

plus no risk. Stocks and shares can go up and down

I like the fact that I can move relatively small amounts of money out of my PB without worrying about dealing fees. In fact not having to think about fees at all is a huge bonus. And whilst they’re not my best performing investment, they’re certainly the most fun!

Steve coming along to educate us 🤣 whilst pointing out the obvious, bow down ladies, bow down.

Nothing for me this month.

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2022 11:30

Yes ease of access is key for me too. We took some money out of an ISA recently and it took two weeks to get to our account.

Yes we know that too

RubbishDay · 02/06/2022 11:35

steve6375 do you really think that we don't know about other investments or understand how PBS work?

RainingYetAgain · 02/06/2022 11:36

£75 (3X25) for me this month, that's £225 this year on £28K. I took a couple of K out in March, and funnily enough all my winnings are since then. Its interesting though, 2 of the prizes came from a tranche of £1000 I bought in Dec 2000. Also got £25 from that batch in December. I've had that before, 2 prizes from the same purchase.
DS1 got £25, don't know about the other DS.

LuckyHedgehog · 02/06/2022 11:36

Nothing for me this month, 2x £25 each for DD and DS (all on max. holdings).

Stocks & shares ISAs etc. aren't an option for us as we live abroad. Premium Bonds are one of the very few savings options for those of us who don't have a UK address/UK residency (although you do have to have a UK bank account).

ENoeuf · 02/06/2022 11:39

Well I have no massive income to invest, and I don't have a pension. I've been a low earner all my life, and am wary of trying to set things up that have extra charges etc. I'm not stupid, I guess I'm one of those people who will never have loads of money to invest and so having a 'chance' is more exciting than earning 6p a year. Better than lottery tickets...

doodles55 · 02/06/2022 11:50

£50 on full holding

FiveShelties · 02/06/2022 12:00

£50 for me, making £225 this year. £75 for husband making £150 this year. We both have £24k each. Happy with that and looking forward to the million in July.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 02/06/2022 12:04

F all on max holdings again! Time for a rethink.

TheRoadToRuin · 02/06/2022 12:56

£75 for me but not a great haul for the three of us who share winnings (me, DH and DS2)

@steve6375 We have HL stocks and shares ISA as well. Plus other investments, but thank you.
Our PBs are max holding and were put in there while interest rates were so low just for relatively instant access. My DC also put as much as possible into their S&S ISA. Youngest needs most of his for a house deposit so he has £40k in PBs. Now he can get 1.5% at chase he's planning to move it.

Yep, none of us clearly have any investment knowledge Hmm

Dyrne · 02/06/2022 13:06

Pleasantly surprised by being able to see the draw today - wasn’t sure if the bank holidays were going to push it to next week.

Won £25 on £10K holdings; which breaks my dry spell and is the first win this financial year. Fingers crossed this signifies my luck turning!
