Over paid a bill

I’ve just done a stupid thing and overpaid a bill by £300. I used the automated payment line over the phone, I’m sure I said £255 but they have taken £555. It didn’t ask me to confirm the amount just took it after I had tapped in my card details. I called the bank to ask if they can stop the payment but they said it has already gone out, so I’m best to contact the company (can’t do that until tomorrow morning as they are shut now). Has anyone else done this and been successful in getting what they over paid back ?

What kind of bill is it? It'll probably just leave a credit balance so that your next bill will be reduced. If it's a one off bill, you should be able to ask for a refund of the excess

It’s finance I took out for the kitchen. Yes I think they probably will just deduct it fro the next payment and part of the one after, but I really can’t afford for that to happen, I need the money back to cover my gas, electric and council tax this month
