Can they put your broadband price up 3 months after taking out a 24 month contract ?

I took out a £20 contract in January - they've just emailed saying they're putting it up to £26

It's a 2 year contract ...

There's no physical contract just email confirmation of my purchase

They probably have the right to do so, in the T&C’s.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2022 19:11

But surely that negates the contract and I can leave ?

That's a what 22% increase?

Can they just put it up to £500 a month and hold me to it Grin

Did they send any terms and conditions?

Hugasauras · 07/04/2022 19:14

It'll be in the terms and conditions, but yes. Fixed contract doesn't necessarily mean fixed price, but there's usually verbiage in the terms and conditions that says they are entitled to increase by X% or that if they increase it by more than a certain amount you are entitled to end your contract without penalty.

Usually, the email about the increase price incudes the option of cancelling the contract within x days But yes, the price can increase.

That's really useful thanks Smile

Clearly they can't put my price up 30% when the retail price index is 5.5%

Nothing in the email about being allowed to cancel

Similar here with Vodafone. The email didn't mention cancelling, but I think it is always an option within 30 days of a price increase notification.

Definitely give them a call, as they should offer you something or allow you to cancel.

I took the opportunity to upgrade my package as there is a reasonable discount on offer.

BT did this to me once, I waited for the contract to end and am now happily with Sky & wont be going back.
