Insurance auto-renew...help

I've been a bit of an idiot and have accidentally paid twice for home insurance last year. Basically the old policy auto-renewed but I moved onto a new policy with a different provider and paid by lump sum because it was cheaper. Meanwhile because we were used to paying by direct debit on the old policy, when the it kept going out we just didn't really notice and thought "ahh the home insurance". Yes, absolutely moronic.

This has come to light when I have received a renewal letter for the old company and gone "oh".

If I phone the old company up, how likely am I to receive a partial refund? Anyone else done experienced this? I'm not getting my hopes up and just think the money is probably gone but I might as well try.

I don't think you have a chance at all, sorry OP. You can hold two insurance policies for the same property (but cannot claim on both for the same event, I think) - so I think they would still consider that they provided the service so were owed te money.

If you can prove that you were insured elsewhere they may partially refund you, I work for an insurance company and it tends to be a case by case basis.

Did you get a renewal notice confirming the old policy had renewed on auto payment last year?
