An acquaintance has approached me to switch my energy to UW, she's done me a quote & it looks on the face of it that I could save money. Has anyone got any experience of using this company & if they would recommend switching?

Is it just energy that's included in the quote?
I dont see that there's anything below the price cap rates

We had it whilst in a temporary rental and the landlady was an agent and therefore had written into the contract that we were expected to use UW.

Loved the idea but just found it very expensive overall and the service was really poor/ online account was just a faff

Since brought again and not a chance I'd willingly use UW again

We are with them and no issues at all. Been with them 8 years ish. The cash back card saves us money.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 02/04/2022 08:55

Avoid at all costs. It's multilevel marketing

Boxachocs · 02/04/2022 09:14

It can be but doesn’t have to be. We tried being distributors for a while but people are so sceptical of it that we stopped bothering years ago. We’ve been happily using Utility Warehouse for years. Prices are fair and the cash back card saves us money. I’m sick of people labelling it as rubbish when they haven’t had experience of it. I have no reason to push it, no links to it, we don’t sell it. We are genuinely just a happy customer.

I'm with UW, I currently pay £180 a month which includes....

Gas
Elec
Broadband
House insurance (contents and Buildings)
2 mobile phones
And free light bulbs

Furbaby2842 · 02/04/2022 09:21

I'm with UW and have been for a year since moving into our new house. Our energy bills have been cheaper here than they were before (was with British gas) for a bigger house. Was emailed last month to say bills would be going up by approx £13 a week

moveoverhogger · 02/04/2022 09:29

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers that's what I thought, seems to be a few people I know she has brought on board to become distributors.

But some mixed reviews on UW price wise. I would only be switching my energy & potentially the boiler cover.

Can anyone explain how the cashback card works?

It’s a preloaded card. You top it up, you get cash back at several retailers. 5% at Boots, 3% at Sainsbury’s. M&S, Waterstones, there are loads of others but I can’t remember them all.

You earn 1% when ever you use ut, but some companies offer more

Have a look at the website it will tell you the companies

ExH and I were with them 5-6yrs then post divorce I stayed with them with a new (my own) account. When I moved I stayed with them. So 17+ yrs. I'm on the double gold tariff, energy, phone and broadband with them. They score consistently highly on WHICH reports - it is NOT MLM - you can sign up without going through an agent - they just use local agents rather than expensive advertising.

They are secure and unlikely to go under in the current crisis, they are well resourced and their customer service is fabulous. Their variable rate tariff is currently 5% below the price cap.

I've never bothered with the cash card as I don't spend much in any of those stores.

I had to create a Mumsnet account to raise awareness about this. I paid a minimum of £440 monthly for only gas and electricity under UW. Please run for your life. Some people praising this are at the top of the MLM, and a handful may be lucky enough to get good prices just to justify their existence. However, they are a fraud. Customer service is terrible. At one point, I was charged £20 for two days of gas. It's disheartening that some people have the audacity to advertise this and deceive others into joining. I recently saw my old landlord advertising it, and now I realize he was part of the MLM. He even registered my old address before I moved in.
