Does anyone have experience with Tide and the new payment verification system? I work for a small company, just me the MD and some engineers. The business was started during the pandemic when all high street banks stopped accepting new business applications so we had to open a Tide bank account. The MD is the only one who can have full access to all services (they will only allow one person) and all is done via the app on his phone - the app cannot be registered on more than one device. I am a registered "read-only" card user so I have a normal company debit card in my name that I can make payments with and I can log in via desktop browser to view transactions in and out.
Up until last week, if I made a payment online that required verification I would get a OTP sent via text to my personal phone. Suddenly this week that has changed and it now prompts me to verify the payment via the app - which is on my boss's phone. This is proving a huge problem because I very frequently pay for things like parking for various people via parking apps and now it seems like every 5th (roughly) transaction requires verification. I then have to try and get hold of my boss which is either not possible, or he says he hasn't had the notification. It renders my card totally useless and I either have to pay with my own money (he will reimburse me but it's a pain that I want to avoid) or risk getting a parking ticket.
I spoke to Tide who said it's all down to the government and their hands are tied. However I'm not sure that's quite right. I know new rules have been put in place regarding verifications of online purchases, but surely the government have not insisted that this must be via an app only accessible by the main account holder. I don't understand why they can't continue to send the OTP to the authorised card user.
Does anyone have any in-depth knowledge in this? Are Tide making this purposely difficult?
