I am currently about to apply for UC, can anyone who has recently claimed tell me how long they had to wait for their first payment?

I think it was approximately a month

From the date you apply it is one month and seven days. So if you apply today, your first assessment period ( when they calculate how much income you have coming in ) will run from 30th- 29th each month. Payment date is then seven days after the last day of your assessment period so would be around 6th May. You can apply for an advance payment to tide you over.
