Probate questions

Hi we were granted probate and the solicitor is now collecting the monies. They say this will usually takes a few weeks for the banks etc. to close the accounts, remit the proceeds and provide closing statements.

Then we have to do the tax clearance which from the message could take ages and ages. I really can't understand why this part could take the longest, can anyone give me their stories what happened in their case?

the whole process is really slow.

You have solicitors and HMRC involved this, neither of which are renowned for moving particularly quickly.
From memory IHT needs to be paid before probate.
You have probate so why can't the IHT30 be submitted now by the solicitor?
Unless of course, the solicitor thinks the tax position will change when the monies are paid out?

Disclaimer, I have dealt with probate before but not via a solicitor.
