Virgin Money

I have been considering opening a Virgin Money M Plus Current account with their linked Saver which are currently paying 2 % and 1% interest respectively.
However, the reviews on Trustpilot are terrible - has anyone got any experience of Virgin Money?

Yes, they are totally shite. I was with Yorkshire Bank until virgin bought them out.

Problems are frequent, almost weekly and so far I’ve had:

APP gets stuck, almost daily.
Card blocked on holiday, text security didn’t work, no access to money for three days
Horrendous wait times
Staff indifferent
Local branch closed
DDs not honoured despite 12k balance
Avoid.
I’m in the process of switching banks after 30 years.

Was it worth staying with this bunch of imbeciles for a couple of quid a month? Absolutely not.

Had a credit card with them...all fine for 2/3 years til l had some fraudulent activity and it took ages to get sorted so l ended up closing the account

I got a credit card with them from 2 years, I have spoken to them couple of times, they were really helpful, i must admit their policy is must stricter than other banks for eg : if you do online banking and paperless , they will charge you for paper statements no matter what the reason behind it.

oviraptor21 · 29/03/2022 21:50

Not had any problems with them. Been with them about 5 years I think.

Clymene · 29/03/2022 21:50

Absolutely shite. I took them to the financial ombudsman who fined them £500 for their incompetence. I told them never to contact me again. They still write to me.

BMWqueen · 29/03/2022 22:24

I’m with them, they are great, this weekend my eBay got hacked and someone purchased gaming codes the bank put the money back in my account the next day
Fantastic

I had a few savings accounts with them; they used to do good interest rates on regular monthly savings, a few years ago. Their online banking was always one of the better ones - very easy to use and straightforward - and I never had a problem. Never used for a current account though

@Cervinia

Virgin didn’t buy them out. Other way round. Clydesdale who own Yorkshire Bank bought Virgin bank and kept the name!

ENoeuf · 29/03/2022 22:50

I have two credit cards with them and so far so simple.

adagio · 29/03/2022 22:55

I’ve got online Isa’s with them (10y+) and they are fine. Although saying that I am not sure I have ever contacted them so they could be shit and I just haven’t had cause too notice Grin

Their customer service is terrible - we recently had to deal with them to try to take money out of my son's account. We had to queue for ages while lots of staff kept hassling the queue about what they wanted but without actually being able to help them 😄🙈. It was awful. They all had jeans and trainers on too, but I wouldn't have minded that if they'd actually been able to serve us. We eventually got to the front of the queue, then they couldn't help us in real time anyway, and we had to arrange to go back 4 hours later. Shockingly bad!

LoopyGremlin · 08/04/2022 09:39

We were with Clydesdale Bank but they are now Virgin. No problems with them at all. Only issue is that our local branch has closed which means a trip to city centre if you need to go into a branch.

The virgin m account also lets you earn cashback - the offered change frequently last month I earned £13 cash back for 2 shops in Morrison’s.
