Carers allowance claim

Canyouanswermyquestion · 22/03/2022 19:53

Has anyone made a recent claim for carers allowance and been awarded before the 12 weeks? Or even taken longer than 12 weeks?

It just depends on backlog. If you are claiming UC, it just comes straight off the UC and messes the Uc claim up anyway.

Canyouanswermyquestion · 22/03/2022 21:35

@Babyroobs how does it 'mess up the claim'? It just comes off £ for £

Because it takes 12 weeks to be backdated, then you get a lump sum of 12 weeks worth of carers allowance which then has to come off the Uc so it generates an overpayment and has to be repaid gradually. Just sometimes seems to be more trouble than it's worth given that you can get the carers element without claiming carers allowance. I guess if you need to claim Carers allowance for the NI contributions then it's worth claiming.

Ahh ok I see what you mean. Worth thinking about. Do you know anything about the new child disability payment in scotland? @Babyroobs

I did mine in August but it came through within a few weeks. Did cause chaos with my UC though, just don’t spend the backlog because at some point (many months later!) UC will figure out you’ve been overpaid and ask for it back.

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the scottish system I'm afraid.

I have been waiting since October 2021...

Canyouanswermyquestion · 29/03/2022 12:02

@Geneticsbunny oh god, i think you best give them a call. Ive just phoned and the woman told me if its not dealt with in 12 weeks to phone them back and theyll escalate it

OP posts:
Geneticsbunny · 29/03/2022 12:11

I have rung twice. They rejected it initially in early January because they aren't able to follow their own rules for who is eligible (full time student) and I chased it in early Feb and march. Just waiting till next week and will ring again.

Canyouanswermyquestion · 29/03/2022 12:36

@Geneticsbunny ahh ok, well good luck! Just think of all the backdated money you will get haha

hi sorry to ask but how long did it take you in the end? i’m in the waiting process and curious of how long the wait or

Geneticsbunny · 08/05/2022 17:16

I think they are running to 12 weeks and then an extra 16 weeks if you get rejected and request reassessment. I am still waiting... I think I should hear by the beginning of June.

Canyouanswermyquestion · 08/05/2022 18:08

Im still waiting to hear anything although it has been deducted from my uc payment this month so im assuming somethings happening in the background

OP posts:
SBParker99 · 08/05/2022 18:26

@Canyouanswermyquestion how long have you waited so far?

Canyouanswermyquestion · 08/05/2022 18:29

@SBParker99 11 weeks

SBParker99 · 09/05/2022 14:50

@Canyouanswermyquestion did you get your universal credits sorted, ive never heard of them taking it before you’ve had backpay

Canyouanswermyquestion · 09/05/2022 15:19

@SBParker99 No I haven't heard anything! So annoying. I'm hoping its a mistake and they sort it out but not very fair that they have deducted money for something I haven't received yet

OP posts:
SBParker99 · 09/05/2022 15:26

@Babyroobs sorry to involve you but i’ve noticed your very knowledgable on benefit system etc, have you ever heard of this? carers allowance being deducted from UC before any payments made and no decision

Canyouanswermyquestion · 09/05/2022 15:58

@SBParker99 I have already spoken with @Babyroobs . Thankyou for trying to help though!

@Canyouanswermyquestion did you get your universal credits sorted? or carers?

Canyouanswermyquestion · 12/05/2022 19:13

@SBParker99 I still havent heard about my recent carers allowance claim and with the universal credit what has happened is my old carers allowance claim had apparently reinstated, carers said this happens alot recently, they have updated it and I need to wait a few days to get my deducted money back
