Cash in lieu of repair

I hit my car against a post and the front bumper came out. Garage have estimated just over £4K for the repair and insurance have said they will give a cash in lieu settlement. Bizarrely insurance hasn't contacted me and I have not been able to reach them.

We have not come across this before. What would happen to my car insurance going forward if I accept the claim? Will I have another option?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

You'll be given the option of an approved repairer or cash in lieu. I suspect they haven't offered approved repairer as there is a serious back log and customers are waiting weeks to get work done.

I see. Car is already at the garage and what you say is correct regarding backlog.

So can we choose to wait til it's repaired or do we have to take cash in lieu?
