2nd job?

What with cost of living going up etc I’m considering taking a second job.

I’ve seen something local that’s ad hoc rather than set hours and it’d give me a bit of spare cash here & there.

As I work full time already I fully expect to pay tax but will it mess up my tax code on my full time job?

Might it be more hassle than it’s worth?

No, it should not change the tax code on your main job unless you earn under £12570. Make sure new job uses tax code BR by completing a new starter checklist and ticking box C.

I have a second 'as and when' job. I pay 20% tax on it. It's not messed up my usual tax code in any way. I phoned HMRC and told them of the 2nd job which I pay 20% tax on. My full personal tax allowance is against my 1st job.
It's definitely been worth it for me.

I had two paye roles once and told tax office and second was a BR code so was taxed fully at 20%. I think whether it's worth it (as in money in your pocket vs effort/time) might depend if it takes you over the higher rate tax which you may then have to pay 40% tax on.
