Not sure what to do ?

I am behind with my water payments. I am supposed to pay £12 but I have let it slip for various reasons, the main one being that most weeks I just don't have it left.

Anyway, I am £120 behind and they have written today to say that they want it by Monday else I will no longer be able to pay by instalments.
I have just rung them to say that I can pay £48 tommorow (which will leave me flat broke again), and then try and pay some more next week but they have said no, I must pay the whole £120 by Monday.

Now what ??

I know it is my own stupid fault, but I am really trying to sort my bills out.

Anyone ?

Shall I just ignore it and try and pay as much off before they cancel the arrangment ?

think i would just pay them £48

IMO that seems completely reasonable.

Its not like they can turn off your water.

Maybe go to CAB and see what they say, but £48 now seems like a very reasonable offer

I would make a payment anyway but generally you could forfeit your right to pay by installments and have to do it either annually or halfly in advance instead. The balance becomes payable in advance if you default but if you can catch up some it may be better than nothing as realistically they won't see the money any quicker if they go down that route. Can I suggest you see CAB on this and the other issues even though you've written to some. They should be able to help you plan forwards and prioritise payments rather than you waiting in fear of the next post.

I have contacted CAB but can't go until end of next week at earliest.

I will pay the £48 tommorow, more if I can find it and then try and pay some more next weekend. I get paid again on Wed but every penny is spoken for as usual and there is nothing that I can swap about.

That's a start Make the payment , ring or go in to their office on Monday and say what you have been able to pay, that you are reviewing how to make up the deficit and will contact them again. Being proactive will put them on the back foot and buy you time.

Right, I paid £48 this am and then I saw my aunt today and she gave me £20 as a late xmas pressie so I scraped together another £4 and paid £24 which is another 2 weeks payments.

I am going to ring on Monday morning and tell them that I have paid £72 and that I will pay another £48 next Sat and then another £24 the following wednesday which will then bring me bang up to date.

Hopefully they will be ok with this. If they are still arsey then I might offer to set up a monthly DD. I prefer weekly payments but as I don't seem to stick to them this might be better.
