Missing bank transfer

I’d really appreciate any help or advice.
I transferred a sum of money to Australia 3 months ago and to date it hasn’t been received by the recipient, despite numerous visits and calls to the bank. I went into the branch and paid a charge for them to process this to avoid any issues.
They keep saying they’ve contacted the recipients bank and haven’t had a response but the recipient bank say they haven’t heard anything.
I’m at a loss what to do next.
Thanks

How much money was it? Was it just a straightforward transfer? I do those all the time and have never had a problem. Have your bank taken the money from your account? If so, and the recipient hasn't received it, then it's a police matter surely?

ClariceQuiff · 15/02/2022 20:26

If your bank hasn't sorted it out after 3 months I would recommend contacting the Financial Ombudsman.

It was £4000.
There did seem to be a bit of an issue inputting the details as there was no Ivan number but a bic code but they said everything went through ok.
The money was taken straight away but has never appeared at the other end.
I’m phoning the international payment team on a weekly basis and they just keep saying the next update will be in 7 days but the next update is always still no contact so they’ll give them another week

Have you made an actual complaint. Or reported it to the fraud dept?

DenholmElliot · 15/02/2022 20:32

Make a formal complaint to your bank, contact the financial ombudsman as a PP said, and also ring the police. I mean, someone has taken your £4k out of your account and now you can't find it!

Sorry but I have to ask this - is it at all possible that the recipient is lying about having received the money? Have you asked them for a copy of their bank statement for evidence?

Moneyhunter · 15/02/2022 20:39

I haven’t made a complaint although they mentioned that I could but I didn’t at that stage because I was just focusing on the fact they said they were investigating it which gave me hope but the investigation is taking forever and not moving forward.

I understand why you would ask but there’s no way that the recipient has received the money, they know the stress this is causing me and I trust them 100%

They have said previously that they have sent a trace 6 times and the recipient bank not responding but recipient bank saying they haven’t received trace

Can you contact someone like The Times Money Mentor Troubleshooter? She's excellent at getting things resolved swiftly. Also maybe try your local MP - they usually get banks moving and get swift answers.

Oblomov22 · 15/02/2022 20:46

Have you asked for it to be recalled?

BootsScootsAndToots · 15/02/2022 20:49

Which bank in Aus is it?

I'd contact the Aus bank telling them you'll be contacting AFCA (our financial ombudsman body) and see if that doesn't put a rocket up them to help.

Were you transferring to someone you know in Aus? Because I'd get them to contact AFCA too.

Good luck OP. I had to transfer a big some of money from the UK to Aus account and it's bloody nerve wracking.

LollyLol · 15/02/2022 20:51

Your bank should be able to raise a trace on the payment and recall it. The money is probably stuck at the HQ of the Beneficiary bank or possibly an intermediary bank because they didn’t know how to apply the funds for some reason.

Escalate and threaten formal complaints; it is a ridiculous amount of time to fail to resolve the issue.

Moneyhunter · 15/02/2022 20:54

I haven’t asked for it to be recalled, they only said they’d put a trace on it. I don’t really understand these things so just thought that was the correct thing to do.
Yes it’s a relative in aus and I have seen the email from their bank to them saying they haven’t received the money or been contacted by my bank.

It is really nerve wracking and that why I paid the charge for the bank to do it rather than being in charge of it myself!
