Tax refund help

fugde08 · 10/02/2022 14:45

I received a letter saying I was owed a tax refund in 2020, it said I could claim online or wait for a cheque to arrive. I had a newborn so thought it would just be easier to wait for the cheque...but it never arrived. Does anyone know how I can chase this up please? I don't know which dept to ring.

Call your tax office. Is there an address or number on the letter? Or was it perhaps a scam text/email?

Could you claim it online ? I did very easy.

Phone HMRC on the phone number on HMRC's own website.

To be honest, it sounds like a scam, so the number on the letter may not be genuine.

I stupidly recycled the letter in faith the cheque would arrive. I don't think it was a scam, I'll ring up the HMRC tomorrow see what they say. Thank you!

Scam - surely they just send the money. On the rare occasion my self employed DH has had a rebate, he gets a cheque through the post without a letter 'announcing' it beforehand.

No, you have to claim it now. This is legit, it was on my government gateway account.
