A company called 'Complete Savings' are stealing money from my bank account

Scoot75 · 03/02/2022 07:18

Has anybody heard of this company? I have never signed up to them but they've got my bank details somehow. They are taking money out of my bank account and I don't know what to do.

Their Customer Service said there is nothing they can do to help. I cannot afford this money. They have literally left me with £1.26 in my account this month until I get paid on the 17th.

Can anyone advise me please? Thanks.

If OP did not fill in her card details or was misled when she filled them in then it is fraud. And it is the banks remit.

OP do you know what kind of device you used when you used moonpig , was it phone or laptop?

The parent company settled a class action lawsuit in the US over 10 years ago, and yes they were obtaining card details from host sites

@MostNamesAreTaken I was on my laptop for the first time and mobile for the second. I most definitely did NOT input my card details. I would never do that. The second time was Iceland. I placed a quick food order for a family member. I was overseas at the time, waiting for a flight. I don’t recall anything about Complete Saver, I just placed the order, paid and that was the end of it.

It at least I thought it was, but it turns out that visit to Iceland resulted in my second Complete Saver account being set up, using the same details as the first.

Have you spoken to your bank?

Here is another article op - which shows how easy it is to join this scheme without realising it. You don't have to enter bank details separately.

I know you don't think you did anything to agree to these payments op, but mistakes are easily made. I hate Klarna but discovered a few months ago that I'd accidentally agreed to use them to pay for some shoes online recently.

Cocomarine · 05/02/2022 09:29

Right, but in between all the tweeting Moonpig and posting on here - what have your bank said?

user1487194234 · 05/02/2022 11:58

This happened to me
Was very busy at the time and by the time I checked my statements 100 had been taken
I contacted them and they refunded it,no drama
I blamed myself for not checking my statement

BellatricksStrange · 06/02/2022 19:56

I love complete savings. As long as I do at least one transaction per month through them, I get my subscription fee back. And then benefit from at least 10% off many shops. All my shopping at Ebay, Argos, Expedia, Booking.com, Curry's and many more is 10% off. When going on holiday (expedia and others) this is a significant saving.

I don't get how anyone could have clicked all the way through without clearly seeing that they will be charged.

Trimthehedge · 06/02/2022 22:33

They are not a scam. I have been a member for years and have earned thousands in cash back. A minimum of 10% cashback for all participating retailers, including flight companies, hotels, argos etc.

Sippingonginandjuice77 · 02/11/2022 10:28

Hi op, I know I’m a bit late to this thread, but came across it whilst searching online for advice as the same thing has happened to me. I just spoke to complete savings and mine was done via a domino’s purchase. I have used them many times online and never had an issue or anything come up to ask me to complete a form for them etc. I was just very firm on the phone and demanded my account to be cancelled and refund arranged. Although she kept repeating that I would have had to have completed the form etc and confirm I agreed to the payments, I kept repeating no I didn’t in response and she didn’t argue with me. I hope you have by now been able to resolve this, but if not, might be worth giving them a call back. Hopefully the next person you speak to might be more understanding and helpful.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 02/11/2022 10:55

OP I got scammed with this a few years back through Look fantastic. I feel for you. I did contact the company themselves and never got a refund but they cancelled my 'subscription' to them.

Sippingonginandjuice77 · 02/11/2022 14:18

Just to update that after speaking to them this morning, I have now had confirmation of cancellation and that the refund will be processed within 3-5 working days. They have added this info into their cancellation email which I thought I would share to help people see where they seem to be catching people out:
“Our records show that you completed an online transaction with Domino's. After your transaction, you were offered the opportunity to join the Complete Savings programme with a £16.87 Welcome Reward and a 30-day free trial. Immediately next to the offer, the Offer and Billing Details were displayed. By entering your name, postal code, selecting the relevant postal address from the drop down list, inserting your credit or debit card details and then clicking on the 'yes' button to accept the offer, you authorised us to charge the monthly membership fee of £15 to the credit card or debit card that was provided after your trial period ended.”
I didn’t see any of this information, just thought I was ordering a pizza!

MarshaMelrose · 02/11/2022 14:22

Yeah, I nearly got caught up in this too. I thought it was part of the ordering process rather than a separate company. I was just fortunate that I clicked no rather than accept. Glad it got sorted for you.

SpidersAreShitheads · 02/11/2022 21:30

These details come up after you've placed your order - I see it every time I do a Dominos order. It says something like "do you want to save £XXX on your next order?" and if you click yes, and fill your details in, you've joined up.

It's an easy oversight but in fairness to Complete Savings, the info really is right there in front of your eyes.

I stayed with Complete Savings after joining them and I've had hundreds of pounds back in the last couple of years. I'm about to move house and need to buy quite a few (expensive) things - I'm going to wait until that's all done and then consider cancelling my account. I recently had to buy a new laptop for work (self employed) and I got over £100 back as cash back.

They've removed a couple of my favourite shops so it might not be as worthwhile for me after these house purchases. They're definitely not a scam but their customer service is a bit shit and slow.

PrincessofWellies · 02/11/2022 21:32

Quote your bank the direct debit guarantee and ask them to refund your money.

Munnerz · 02/01/2023 11:15

I fond out this morning that I've had £15 takin out of my account I've not signed up with them or giving them my bank detail and when I've tryed to go on to their web page they ask me to sign in with my email and pass word they say my email is not recognised proof that I've not registerd with them I've sent untold massages to them with no reply it's doing my head in having money taken out and the is nothing I can do

N4LLY · 05/01/2023 13:27

Just notice the same. £ 15 taken with no authorisation.
Have told the bank's fraud team to block any further payments. Grrrr

Marky2 · 10/01/2023 14:23

They have done the exact same thing to me, did you get your money back?**

saltofcelery · 10/01/2023 14:27

This happened to me a couple of years ago - £15 being taken out every month. I had to work hard to find the company as it was not obvious from the bank statement.

I found the company, called them and they confirmed that I'd signed up through a purchase on a website. I totally denied it and they reimbursed me.

A couple of months later I was buying something and a box popped up - it was the exact same thing. Be careful because lots of big name brands have this pop up at checkout and it's so easy to click "agree".

Brieandjam · 10/01/2023 20:15

They are a legitimate cashback company. i have had thousands of cashback over the years. Recently got £200+ csshback from my winter holiday. It is just a shame that they dont improve their marketing strategies

Zizi1987 · 11/03/2023 19:36

Hi my friend.
I have a same problem, I Just realized a few days ago that I have a membership on company’s website. They took already roughly £270! I just called them and talked with them. they refunded £45 and sent me an email to fill up a form and resend it again to them! I mentioned that I never use your services or even sing in on your website. at the moment I am waiting for their answer, because it takes times 7 working days.
Also, I spoke with my bank, The bank connected me to fraud section and told officer that it happened! I told the company, and might they return my money, but I cannot trust them so if it is possible, please get money back for me!
Officer said okay, let's see how goanna be after filling the form, if they do not return the money call me back and let' see how we can sort it.

It is ridicules at all.

Mumzy1 · 29/04/2023 20:40

If you make 1 purchase min per month, you receive the £15pm membership fee back as a ‘monthly bonus’ -(every month), along with your 10% Cashback.
Sometime it works out good;
20% off gift cards combined with 10% off purchases!
For future reference, you can always get your money back- simply call the bank, tell them you have no knowledge or agree to the company nor charge(s) of the transaction(s) and politely request a ‘Chargeback’, you will be refunded any payments.
Your bank usually covers you (via Chargeback) for up to six months with any Visa Debit card transaction.

bamboonights · 29/04/2023 21:44

I think it's about time legislation was brought in against companies doing this. Also they should be more transparent with who they actually are when referenced on your bank statement. Ive occasionally struggled with things like insurance companies who are not listed on my bank statement as the company I signed up with.

Fidelio · 04/12/2023 18:16

I just got the same problem, suddenly a charge for £15 has appeared on my credit card and like many I've no idea why. The problem starts I have no details written confirmation, account number, nada. So how do I reference when trying to talk to them. Which also seems pointless, as I called their customer service number and have been on hold now for 30 mins. Will cancel my card and see what happens, the best thing is I don't even live in the UK.

Can't you just report it to your credit card provider as a transaction you didn't authorize?

Sometimes it's just that someone got hold of your card details and is committing fraud. It's up to your credit card company to sort that out.
