Marriage v Partnership

Hi there, my partner and I have 2 kids, a mortgage 50:50 and I’m a SAHM whilst partner works and provides. We can’t decide whether to get married or not and we want to know to pro’s and cons when it comes to money matters as we know there are different rules. I’ve realised that given I’m the one at home doing childcare I’m in a financially vulnerable position should the relationship break down. We are planning to marry but we just wanted to find out what it means legally nowadays. Any insights greatly appreciated.
