Sainsburys credit card

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2022 18:52

I have a Sainsburys credit card, had it around 10 years or more but about 2 years ago I decided to stop using credit cards and cut it up and threw it away. It has a balance on it so I carried on paying it by direct debit and all was fine. I occasionally get a letter or text from them but I haven’t had to contact them for any reason.
I have now changed bank account so need to set up a new DD, due to the type of account I had I couldn’t use the switch service and had to move everything manually and I have APART from this credit card.
Every method I can find to contact them requires me to input the dc number but I don’t know it! Even if I phone I have to put in the number and when I don’t I just get cut off by the automated system or sent it circles. The website is the same, as is the option to set up internet access to the account
Does anyone have any ideas how I could solve this? I need an actual human and while there is probably one in a call centre somewhere I can’t get through without putting in my card number.
I am not on Twitter but I could send a FB message I suppose?
I have letters and emails from them but they only quote the last few digits on the card.
Would reporting it lost work I wonder?

When you call does it not allow you to speak to someone if you don't put in the dc number?

If not, you could try to find a generic number for sainsburys and ask if somebody can put you through without needing the number first ?

When I call the automated service tells me to have my card handy and to input it. When I don’t it cuts me off

No just cancel the DD they will soon be in touch with you.

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2022 19:25

Probably to tell me I missed a payment though, which will screw up my credit rating I imagine

My DD reference number is my credit card number. Does that make sense ?

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2022 19:33

Yes but on mine the number is blanked out except for the last few digits unfortunately

Oh ok.

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help though so far

I would report it lost and then sort out the new DD from the new card number.

LashesZ · 21/01/2022 19:42

I had a similar issue before. I just chose a completely random option like house insurance just to speak to an actual person and asked them if they could put me through to the relevant department so I could bypass the automated checks.

Have you got on line access set up? I have to print off a monthly statement and the full card number is shown on that.Appreciate that you are not using the card and just paying off but that may help.

torthecatlady · 21/01/2022 19:45

If you get a paper statement every month your credit card number will be on that at the top right.

Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2022 19:48

No paper statements and I might have set up online access at some point but I can’t remember log ins and to reset I need the card number

Do you have the Sainsbury's credit card app? You can pay using your debit card

garlicandsapphires · 21/01/2022 23:04

Surely you can report it lost and order a new one?

Mummyoply · 21/01/2022 23:45

I've had something similar before and just typed in 1234567 and so on for the correct digit count and it got me in the queue. Once I got through to the real person they didn't even mention it!

Hoppinggreen · 22/01/2022 09:51

I can’t set up the app without a card number unfortunately
mummyoply I will give that a go and if not I think my only option is to report it lost and get another one.
