Currently divorcing and G&E in husbands name. They told him they are not taking new customers on variable.

I have tried to get hold of them to find out if this is actually the case but no luck.

Please lovely people do any of you know if they are not setting up new accounts on variable and it has to be fixed?

This was mentioned in Martin Lewis’ show, I think this week - he said they’re not allowed to refuse to put people onto the variable rate.

dementedpixie · 15/01/2022 10:08

I agree that they have to offer the variable rate as well as fixed

Plus you're not really a new customer, more just changing the name on the account.

dementedpixie · 15/01/2022 10:17

Are you taking over the account or are you in a separate property? Can the name not be changed over?

Summersdreaming · 15/01/2022 10:29

Changing the name shouldn't count as a new customer, but it might depend if your ex is willing to contact them and agree the change over

He's being very very difficult about everything. He told me they said no.
