VAT rate for scout trip

I'm confused.

My daughter has a trip with scouts to a PGL place. The letter said to pay £25 + VAT deposit. They didn't state the rate so I presumed it was 20% so I paid £30 for the deposit.

I've just had an email asking for the balance to be paid of £88.88 which includes VAT @ 12.5%. So I think I've overpaid.

Where does the 12.5% rate come from ? is my question really.

Hospitality and holiday places are paying reduced VAT of 12.5% at the moment. So best clarify how much you owe if you overpaid deposit.

I think 12.5% is a temporary rate in place for certain sectors during covid.
