How much is your weekly food shop ?

Have I gone mad or is food shopping a lot more expensive?

Pre covid I was doing a weekly shop for 4 of us at about £ 100 ( including by cleaning & basic ) toiletries. That was at usually Aldi or Lidl.
i switched to online delivery during lockdown and now use Ocado. Kids are both teenagers and eat loads - both me and DH WFH these days so don't get lunch or coffees out so much. But all the same, not sure I'm being tight or this what things cost now. I do buy good quality food, as I cook from scratch/ fresh most of the time ... attempting to keep us all healthy !

What do you budget a week for 4 ?

It is more expensive definitely. Pre covid we used to spend about £50 at Aldi and about £50 at Morrisons. Basics and veg all at Aldi and nicer stuff at Morrisons. That was for a family of 4 plus a cat and a dog. Since covid we aren't buying anything noticeably different as far as I'm aware but we are definitely spending between £20-30 more a week. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Clutterbugsmum · 13/01/2022 18:39

I think it depends on how stock your cupboards are.

I spend £100 per family member per month. So £500 for 3 adults and 2 teenagers. But I have a well stocked pantry so I'm not buying everything we need for the week, and I'm only replacing what we have eaten.

ElenaCouch · 13/01/2022 18:44

2 adults and a toddler. Averages out about £70 a week. Tesco

MrsKDB · 13/01/2022 18:49

Far too much and I can’t get it down.

A decade ago I could feed two adults and a toddler for £40-45 / week. Now it’s coming in around £100 for the same two adults and two young/ mid teens.

We don’t buy any meat or alcohol and cook every meal from scratch.

SantaMonicaPier · 13/01/2022 18:49

Prices have def gone up. I bought a chicken from Ocado last week and when I went to buy another the next day the price was 10% higher.

Four of us here and between Ocado and Morrisons we probably spent £160 a week. Increased by one DC's fussiness and various dietary requirements, I could otherwise do it more cheaply.

GiltEdges · 13/01/2022 18:50

About £150/week for two adults and a pre schooler at Ocado. A couple of years ago the same shop would probably have cost £120ish.

Sunsetsupernova · 13/01/2022 18:52

2 adults, shop in Aldi. Just food and no toiletries or cleaning products about £40 a week. However, I meticulously meal plan and will include some cheaper meals during the week to use up store cupboard ingredients. That includes plenty of meat, veg and fruit.

Rekorderlig88 · 13/01/2022 18:52

Around £100. 2 adults.. 1 teenager 1 child. Both children have dietary needs gluten free dairy free so more expensive.

XiCi · 13/01/2022 18:53

Prices have definitely risen so much. My shop from Ocado pre lockdown used to be about 100 a week for 3 of us now it's around 140. I did a Lidl shop the other week and thought that had massively increased as well.

DirtyDancing · 13/01/2022 18:59

2 adults and 2 kids c. £120 a week. It's bloody expensive & I am always trying to cut it down.

We use Ocardo mostly but also Sainsbury. Want to start getting non perishable items form Lidl or Aldi

Hoppinggreen · 13/01/2022 19:05

£200-£250 Ocado
2 adults and 2 teens

JudgeRindersMinder · 13/01/2022 19:06

Usually about £90-£100 in Tesco for a 3 adult household.

Marmelace · 13/01/2022 19:10

3 adults and a 6ft teenager, around £200+ a week, that includes household stuff and supplies for 3 finicky cats. I know I could do it for less, but I like nice stuff.

Marmelace · 13/01/2022 19:10

@Hoppinggreen

£200-£250 Ocado 2 adults and 2 teens
Oh thank goodness, I don't feel so bad now 😅
TheCatShatInTheHat · 13/01/2022 19:14

About £140 a week for 2 adults (and two spoilt cats). We also eat out at least twice a week.

redpandaalert · 13/01/2022 19:15

I think Ocado is the most expensive I used to shop with them. I now do a mix of Waitrose and Sainsburys. Veg and fruit better at Sainsburys meat better at Waitrose

Comedycook · 13/01/2022 19:16

At least £120 a week now and I only shop a Lidl and Aldi...I'm quite careful too and don't drink alcohol

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 13/01/2022 19:18

We are probably around £250 a week. Ocado.and m and s for main shop. Plus local butcher's, milkman and weekly organic veg box

evtheria · 13/01/2022 19:21

£75 weekly budget incl household items like detergents, etc
-3 of us, but DS on school meals
-DP works long nights so he has a packed meal & snacks to take as well as regular meals at home
-meat ‘heavy’ (ie most days) for DP
-from Tesco as I need it delivered and we do find the points useful

This has increased from £60 at beginning of last year, but we haven’t changed our buying habits!
Sometimes I will skip items if I know I will go to aldi and buy them cheaper, I rarely go over unless it’s Christmas or we have guests staying, etc.

Holeyscarf · 13/01/2022 19:23

About £100 but we don’t eat meat which makes a big difference I think.

Cochabamba · 13/01/2022 19:25

£120 two adults, two teenagers, one cat.
No meat or alcohol.

Cochabamba · 13/01/2022 19:25

Except meat for the cat I suppose

Cochabamba · 13/01/2022 19:25

If you can call it meat

ouch321 · 13/01/2022 19:26

In mid-late September a mozarella ball for a new recipe for lasagne I was making at Morrisons was 49p. It's now 60p. Only 11p but as a % increase in three months it's hefty.

Milk was always £1 for 4 pints, now £1.15.

MilduraS · 13/01/2022 19:29

We spend about £80-£100 per week for two of us. We meal plan and go to Aldi first then pick up the rest from Sainsburys. We also buy bits from a Chinese supermarket and The Spicery every couple of months outside of that for about £40-£60 each time.
