How much is your weekly food shop ?

Have I gone mad or is food shopping a lot more expensive?

Pre covid I was doing a weekly shop for 4 of us at about £ 100 ( including by cleaning & basic ) toiletries. That was at usually Aldi or Lidl.
i switched to online delivery during lockdown and now use Ocado. Kids are both teenagers and eat loads - both me and DH WFH these days so don't get lunch or coffees out so much. But all the same, not sure I'm being tight or this what things cost now. I do buy good quality food, as I cook from scratch/ fresh most of the time ... attempting to keep us all healthy !

What do you budget a week for 4 ?

1 adult 4 kids: weekly shop £150

BrunoJenkins · 13/01/2022 19:38

You switched Lidl to Ocado so of course it's more expensive! Try Asda delivery if you want to save a bit of money.

We spend about £150 a week for 2 adults & 2 toddlers:

A monthly sainsburys delivery which is about £275.

A huge weekly fruit and veg box delivered from a local greengrocer for £26 which makes up the majority of our lunches and dinners (we're vegetarian).

& then I often pop to a local shop for bread, milk and random ingredients, probably spending about £60 a week.

£140 Lidl, 4 adults at home

weeme02 · 13/01/2022 19:42

£30-£40 a week in Aldi, 1 adult, 1 child and a cat

Hoppinggreen · 13/01/2022 19:44

@Marmelace

3 adults and a 6ft teenager, around £200+ a week, that includes household stuff and supplies for 3 finicky cats. I know I could do it for less, but I like nice stuff.
Neither do I!
IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 13/01/2022 19:49

I havent worked out weekly amounts, but I notice that many items I buy regularly have gone up 10-50p or more. Over the whole shop it adds up.

MumOf21 · 13/01/2022 19:55

Between £100 and £150 a week, depending on how full the freezer is, if we are feeding the extended family who live locally, sweets and treats for Grandchildren, and DH likes his supply of sweets and Chocolate treats too!
Also includes all Laundry and Cleaning products, and a supply of meat and Fish from the local Farm shop for the week, but neither of us drink Alcohol, due to medical conditions and take prescribed Medication/Diet to treat it.

stingofthebutterfly · 13/01/2022 19:55

About £120 at Lidl. 7 of us, including a toddler in nappies. Packed lunches for 2 teenagers, all cleaning products and meat, but no alcohol.

LakeShoreD · 13/01/2022 20:03

£250 this week for 2 adults, a 4YO and a 1YO. It has been 2 weeks since our last shop so stocks are depleted and that does also include £50’s worth of plonk. 2 adults, a 4YO and a baby.

Whitewolf2 · 13/01/2022 20:17

Around £140-150 a week for 2 adults, 2 children, but I get pretty much everything we need in that shop - toiletries, cleaning products, alcohol etc

givememykeys · 13/01/2022 20:19

Prices have been going up for months I assume you don't shop every week, monthly shoppers will have been saving money recently

Comparing with others is a waste of time, to cut your own spend you need to find the cheapest shop(s) for what your family eats. Do supermarket comparison websitesstill exist?

Why would what I or anyone else spends be relevant to you Confused

girlabouthome · 13/01/2022 20:20

About £100 - £140 a week
2 adults, and one DS - DD is not weaned yet.

Prices have definitely gone up.

We have used Ocado for years but I'm trying to get to Aldi when I have it in me to face the checkout with a preschooler and a baby

ChurchlightJane · 13/01/2022 20:20

Five adults of which two are vegan, two are veggie and one is omni. Yesterday spent £101 in Lidl and topped up with a further £73 in Sainsburys. No booze, no cleaning products but does include packed lunches.

itwasntaparty · 13/01/2022 20:32

£100 a week not including dog food or alcohol, or treat food, or a take away once a week. Kids have also gone on to school lunches so paying for them separately - £100 p/m

Quornflakegirl · 13/01/2022 20:32

2 adults, 2 nine year olds and a cat. I shop and Tesco and used to spend under £80 per week and now it’s £100 per week.

Lurpak spreadable has gone from £3.25 to £3.95!

gogohm · 13/01/2022 20:40

About £80 a week including £30 on HelloFresh

Enzbear · 13/01/2022 20:44

£70 previous but maybe £80 of late.
2 adults and dogs

vickyc90 · 13/01/2022 21:43

Before going veggie £150ish for two adults and a 7 year old. Now £70-100

Tyredofallthis1 · 13/01/2022 21:53

@ouch321 The gluten free pasta in Morrisons has gone from 50p to 75p in the last month or so.

I think that there have been a lot of 5p here and 10p there hikes on smaller cost items, so while the absolute amount of the increase isn't much, the percentage is quite big.

dizzygirl1 · 13/01/2022 21:58

1 adult 2 teens (5 days a week). I spend between £40 - £55 a week. Meal plan and budget.

languagelover96 · 13/01/2022 23:17

Prices have increased. I like to buy my fruit and vegetables cheaply from a local weekly open air market instead as it reduces food miles etc. My weekly food shop is done on Friday mornings and I purchase everything else during it. My mom buys meat for me. I have £50 each week for my food shop at Sainsburys.

Jouleigh · 13/01/2022 23:37

We are a bit random with the shopping. When we go to Aldi probably £80 pw. Top ups during the week of about £30.
If it Sainsbury's which is nearest then £140ish. Tesco tends to be £120. Both need a top up as well but possibly less than Aldi as the range is bigger.

We also do a farm food shop for toilet roll, frozen bits and washing powered monthly. It's usually £40 after the discount.

My aim is Aldi each week but it isn't the nearest and doesn't have everything we need.

We are 3 adults, a teen, pre teen and dog!

Shopping for us we noticed went up during the pandemic we are paying £30 per week more.

Jouleigh · 13/01/2022 23:38

Forgot to add 1 vegetarian, one dairy free and several fussy ones including the dog! Grin

shivawn · 14/01/2022 04:22

Around 80. 2 adults and a breastfed baby (just nappies and wipes for baby in grocery shopping)

notyouagainn · 14/01/2022 05:42

Definitely more expensive I go Aldi and usually spend about £80 a week but then prob spend 20-30 more topping up. That's for 2A 1C plus a dog and two uni students that are home intermittently.
