Hi everyone i took my ipad as my daughter had smashed the screen for repair. Dropped it off all good, got a phone call saying its ready to be picked up. he then says forgot to mention the card machine isnt working so it will be cash. I said i couldn't get the cash and would need to be card payment (credit card) i don't have 90 in my current account to pay for it.

He said the machine might be up and running by tomorrow or if it working this afternoon he will call me.

Not sure what to do now does this seem right?

If he's unable to take card, there's not much he can do. It's not illegal to be cash only business anyway.

AlwaysHangry · 11/01/2022 14:12

Thank you, but if he had told me it was cash only i would have gone somewhere else that took card as i don't have the cash i suppose i will just have to try and get the money together

You shouldn’t assume card payment is ok so should have checked first.
Hopefully his machine will work soon bit the onus on you is to pay him, it’s not up to him to fund a way for you to do that

Thank you for your advice everyone. My bad i suppose i just thought it was normal to pay by card but nevermind lesson learnt to ask before. Thanks everyone

Now if that were me, it's not something I'd go into debt over anyway.

I would have told my DD that she'd have to wait until I had enough money to pay for the repair rather than borrow the money via a credit card.
That's just me though. We all have different priorities.

Im not going in to debt over it, i was paying on credit card and then when i got paid on monday pay the card off.

i had time to drop the ipad off yesterday and just thought get it done whilst i have time due to work

Paying by credit card IS going into debt. Although I see you plan to pay it back quickly.

Hoppinggreen · 11/01/2022 15:14

I see you were paying it back quickly but please don’t see using a cc as not going into debt, it really is and it’s a dangerous way to think (been there, bought far too many tshirts)
