Criminal compensation

Hi. Does any one have any advice. Someone who’s claimed CICA in the past.

How long were you waiting for a decision.

I claimed 8 months ago for historic sexual abuse. And I’ve not heard nothing yet. Every time I ring up they just say it’s with a case worker. Last time I called they said they were just awaiting a criminal check to be returned for myself.

How much longer can I expect to wait. I know it said up to a year. But honestly it’s bringing back so many memories I’d put to bed.

One of my family members applied and I think it took a long time after the court case, where the perpetrator pleaded guilty. I can't remember but it could have been a year.

Unfortunately they do seem to take a long time. I hope you hear soon.

Thank you. The person who did it to me was found not guilty. This was about 18 year ago. Laws and justice on sexual abuse was even worse back then then it is now. Only just made a claim though as didn’t know CICA even existed till now. I’d like to think seen as it’s taking so long they are considering it anyways. Everyday it plays on the back of my
Mind though. Just need a decision so I can close that chapter again

I think you'd probably have heard by now if they were going to reject you. Best of luck.

Hi @Sparkles1986

I know I am late to this so probably no help now, did you get awarded your compensation? I believe they only do a criminal check to make sure you are allowed the full award once they have decided to give it to you, although appreciate it is a bit late to tell you that now!

I am currently going through my claim and have accepted. How long did it take for your payment to come through (assuming you were successful/accepted it)?

Pressed send too soon.

I also hope you can finally put it to bed now and have some closure

Can k discuss this with someone? Can a claim be made when no criminal proceedings have taken place? My abuser has passed away

@gratefulheart have you reported the crime to the police? You have to have reported it to the police and for them to have investigated it to make a claim I believe.
