Close male friend and his wife were named as co-executors of his mother's will. His mother died due to COVID last year and he and wife separated shortly afterwards. She moved out and up to Scotland and children are grown up so they have almost zero contact with each other.
Solicitor holding his mother's will insisted on ID and letter requesting its release from both of them but obviously, the wife being out of the picture makes that pretty impossible and friend (male whose Mother's estate he wants to sort) is being hassled and paying out a small fortune from his own savings to keep her property and other costs ticking over.
Does anyone know if and how he can have his mother's will released from the solicitors just with his own ID and request?
Solicitor isn't being necessarily difficult just not helpful. Bearing in mind the ex may not play ball or respond at all, it has to reach a point where surely the son's ID alone will suffice hasn't it?
