How to work this

I am in a relationship with dp who has 2 kids , he has them 50/50. He lives in a house and has around 300 k equity . We want to move in together and hypothetically want marriage / children. I earn 30 k, him 40 k, full time .

I would move in a pay towards bills , but not mortgage .
If we have a dc , we would need a bigger property . We could get a mortgage to do this . Prior to this relationship , I was looking at getting a flat by myself my parents would have helped me out with a deposit .

How can I protect my financial position in this situation ? I don’t know how it works with someone who is more financially secure. I want to make sure I do this ‘right’. Any tips ?
