Warm Home Discount

Rovicha88 · 25/11/2021 09:27

I applied for the warm home discount last year and received it within a few weeks (I’m on low income with a 2 year old)
I applied again this year 9 weeks ago now and still hasn’t heard back. I contacted my supplier this morning who said they were “waiting for the DWP to confirm everything”

I know each supplier usually sends a certain number of randomly selected applications to be checked over by the DWP against their records and they can ask for “evidence” if required.

This has all been stressing me out as there’s no reason I shouldn’t be accepted but I still darent put my heating on much incase something goes wrong with the whole application.

Has anyone ever had their checked over by the DWP? How long did it take?

Sorry for the longish OP, I have bad anxiety and things like this make it ten times worse.

Most suppliers don't actively confirm your eligibility, you find out when the payment goes through. Sometimes the payment isn't made until March, although it is earlier if you're on a prepay meter.

If you are eligible because you're on one of the named benefits, then I wouldn't worry about it, you will get the payment.

@CorrBlimeyGG Ahhh okay so all of the applications have to be confirmed by DWP anyway? Yeah I keep telling myself that there’s no reason I wouldn’t get it. Just feels like such a long wait to find out this time.
Thank for answering :-)

That's right what another poster said. I filled out mine with British Gas, and it said if I am eligible it will be received next year! Haven't heard anything since. So I am assuming I will just see credit on my gas or electric whichever one I chose.

It's not that all applications need to be confirmed, but that the supplier doesn't actively tell applicants they've been accepted. It's a strange one, you apply and then nothing until you get the payment. Which is frustrating when you're trying to be responsible and budget.

On what you've said, you're certain you meet the criteria so there shouldn't be a problem. Just keep hold of the email confirming you have applied.

Mine has always been paid in March when I need it the least

Thanks for the replies everyone, feel a bit more at ease now. Yes it’s pretty frustrating the way it works. I wouldn’t mind if it took until March to receive the payment, I’d just like them to tell me that I’ll definitely get it Grin

I think it may depend on your supplier, I applied in October, I got an email with in a couple of days to confirm I was eligible and it was put on the meter last week. I'm on a pre payment meter so that may make a difference.

Danikm151 · 25/11/2021 12:22

I didn't get told by my supplier(SSE) that I had received it until I got my statement last week. It does say it can take up till march though and there are a limited number of discounts that can be given.
I'd give them a call or email.

Rovicha88 · 25/11/2021 12:25

Just gotten off the phone to them (it’s Octopus energy) and yes mine is one of the 5% which has been randomly selected to be sent off. Just my luck! Not sure how much longer it could take now
