Anyone used PensionBee app?

Any downsides?

I have a couple of smaller pensions from past jobs. They're quite awkward to access. I was thinking of using Pension Bee to combine them and keep an eye on them.

Has anyone used them?

In what way are they awkward to access? Do you mean getting hold of plan information, or something else?

NeverHomeAlone · 23/11/2021 16:26

I mean contacting them and viewing your pension is all done over the phone and by letter. Paying in extra is another form etc.

Yes, I used it to combine a few old pensions.
I had no idea how much I had in various small pensions from previous workplaces so it felt good to get it all consolidated

Once PensionBee tracked all of my little pension pots down, which didn't take very long, they were all combined into the one pot.
I chose what kind of investment I wanted to put the money into, they have a few options based on how much risk you want to take and whether you want the plan to be ethical, avoiding investments into things like fossil fuel. It was all very easy and clearly explained.

I can now log in at the touch of a button and see how much is in there, what plan I am on and how much I am projected to have at retirement. It's so clear and user friendly.
I also started paying a bit into mine each month by direct debit and this is also very easy to set up. I paused this payment for a while while I was saving for something else and found it very easy to cancel it and start again or amend the amount I put in.

I would definitely recommend it. No downsides from my point of view.
I'm sure there are better investments, but I'm happy having the few small pots in one place and slowly adding to it as well as my current workplace pension.

I quite like them. I’m a pensions adviser.

NeverHomeAlone · 25/11/2021 08:52

Anything else similar to PensionBee that I could look at for comparison?

Not really, not that I’ve ever found. You can of course do it all yourself:

Find a pension provider e.g Fidelity,
Decide on investments (that’s the trickier bit)
Transfer pots to the new scheme

Any protected benefits must be flagged.

What @Batfinkwings said
I don't have much to put into a pension (I have a separate work one) but I shove £20pm in pension bee on the grounds that it's better than nothing! And it is slowly building up with a couple of tiny previous pensions

There's mention of one of their schemes supporting sharia law, and I suppose that is making me hesitant.

It's not that as such it's that it's shariah compliant (it's an optional plan you can choose) so things like anything involving pork (even packaging) is filtered out

Is there a Christian equivalent that anyone knows of?

Eden tree do funds but not sure they do product though.
Dindundundundeeer · 25/11/2021 11:48

They don’t support shariah, they are compliant to the rulings. Very different and a faith based approach. It’s because there are prescriptive elements that would stop Muslims investing if they didn’t offer this.
