Switching bank accounts

Hi all

Thinking about switching my bank account to Santander (currently with NatWest).

DP banks with Santander and our mortgage is also with Santander, so just makes more sense. I want to switch up how we manage our money and think us banking from the same bank will just make things easier.

How simple is it to actually switch? Can we switch our joint account (NatWest) to Santander too?

Use the current account switch service as they swap all your direct debits for you

The bank will do it for you, all hassle free!

And they'll give you £130 cashback.

It doesn't make much difference whether you are in the same bank or different ones to how easy it is to manage your money, but the £130 and the cashback on bills make Santander a good choice.

But I do warn against having all your eggs in one basket, because if Santander have a technical problem, it could leave you without access to money, so it's good to have a separate account elsewhere just in case.

There are outages with some regularity, I'd say at least one or two a year that make the news/forums and every time there are people complaining that they couldn't buy food, put fuel in the car so they couldn't get to work so they lost money, couldn't buy medicine for a sick child or any other catastrophe that could have been prevented if they'd had a back up account or empty credit card etc.
