To ask for assistance to calculate approx. monthly maternity pay I would likely receive?

Hi all,

We are currently moving house and I am doing some personal finance planning for the next few years and I would really appreciate some assistance calculating my likely monthly income I will receive for maternity pay? I am not pregnant yet but hope to be within that timescale. My maths is not great, so your assistance is greatly welcomed.

I work for a local authority and earn circa £37,000 annual before tax.

We are entitled to:

6 weeks @ 90% full pay

13 weeks@ 50% full pay + Stat Pay

20 weeks Stat Pay

13 weeks remaining will be taken unpaid

The above will be calculated and divided by 12 months to make one consistent monthly payment

My tax code is 1156L

Gross pension contribution is 6.8%

Please let me know if I have missed any key information out.

Trying to work out how much money we would need to save to 'bridge' the gap each month.

Thank you :)

I'm on month 8 of maternity leave and received £673 in October. Hope that helps.

Don't forget that the statutory pay is taxed (I hadn't realised this), so don't do 50% of what you normally receive, then add statutory - instead do 50% of what you normally receive and add (statutory minus 20% tax).

@c24680 thank you is this stat mat pay?

Have you got your tax code wrong? It's 1257 is it not?

c24680 · 30/10/2021 21:11

@moneyabbadeedaa yes it's stat pay, has been for a few months.

I set up my own spreadsheet - but I found this website which is pretty good!
