Single mum benefits

Hi there
I wondered what benefits as a single mum I am entitled to? I currently receive maternity pay as well as child benefit. I have just applied for universal credit
Any advice would be appreciated thank you

That's like asking how long a piece of string is.

Loads more details needed.

Number of kids, ages of kids, salary, amount in savings, location (for max they'll give you for rent). I'm sure there is more info they need.

Use the entitled to calculator for a rough idea but take it with a pinch of salt as it does sometimes over estimate what you'll get from UC.

Everything comes under universal credit now. Except child benefit and help towards council tax. You have to apply to your council separately for that.
As PP said the amount you get will depend on your income, number of children and rent costs.

You're entitled to a heat grant thing. It's £150 a year. Apply now as it fills up quickly

Heating grant ?
@MobyDicksTinyCanoe
I did not know about that .could you tell me more please .
Thanks .

The best calculator I've used is from the website Universal Credit Essentials. You plug in all the numbers yourself but they take you step by step and it's very easy to follow. Definitely far more accurate than entitled to and turn2us. They have an accompanying Facebook page (they do switch off comments when too busy, but there's loads of information on the page) and it's run by people who work within Universal Credit and know what they're talking about

The heating grant is dependent on income not being a single parent. So you might be entitled to it, but not necessarily.

bizzey · 21/10/2021 16:04

I have no income apart from carers allowence.
Does that count ?

bizzey · 21/10/2021 16:04

And SP .

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 21/10/2021 16:08

bizzey it's dependent on quite a few things, including who supplies your electric, go to your suppliers website and search for warm homes discount, that will show how they do it

Depends what you earn really, how many kids you have, how much rent you pay etc and what you get on mat pay will be different when you go back to work. Have you used entitled to website or similar? Then you can have an idea what you’ll get, although sometimes you don’t get exactly what it comes up with. I’m a single parent of 4 (one non dependant) I don’t get the heating grant so apply if you can. It’s an uncertain time op I hope you get what you need and can manage ok.
