How much is diesel?

I need to price a childminding job.
I have a renault scenic diesel.The journey is 8.9 miles twice a day.
How much diesel will I use?
Apparently my car does 38 miles to the gallon.
Can anyone help please?

I don't drive - but have notice round these parts (northamptonshire) that diesel is currently 104.99 at Morrisons......

Depends where you live, what garage etc
Salford Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrison's all currently around £1.02 a litre.
Local independent garage as much as £1.12

My diesel does an average of 45 mpg.

At an average of £1.05 per litre, that's about £4 a gallon,or roughly 10 pence per mile. So if you're doing 18 miles a day, it'll cost you £1.80 per day.

But the car is more efficient than our old petrol motor.

You should also factor in depreciation of your car and wear and tear. Generally mileage is paid at 30-40p per mile for expenses.

Im so sorry Im so dum when it comes to litres and gallons.Can anyone enlighten me?

mumblechum - there are 4.5 litres to a gallon, so your calcs are wrong I'm afraid!

18 miles x 30p per mile = just over £5. I would charge £5. This allows for wear and tear as well as the cost of the diesel and is not an unreasonable figure to ask someone for.

For just diesel, and no other running costs, it's £2.24 a day.

I think I will charge £3 a day.Its only temp for 5weeks.Thanku everyone.
