Hi people
My universal credit money goes into my brothers account sadly he passed away last week a family member tried to close his account the only money there was my ESA the bank is now closed and I won't get another payment til 21st Oct, they won't pay me this month not until bank bounces it back. I went to bank told them my situation but said they don't send it back its only DWP can get in touch with bank and pull it back DWP said they don't do I got to wait for money to get back to them before they will issue me a payment..my question is can DWP recall it back or have I got to wait

I think this is an unusual situation as normally it would be paid into your own account. I am sorry to hear about your brother.

I think you should contact CAB for more specialist advice. Can you send a note to UC on your journal?

DWP cannot recall a payment from the bank unfortunately, it is correct it can only be repaid once the payment has came back with an issue. I would send a journal asking if there are any possible advances or contact your local welfare support. Also ensure you get your bank details changed on UC, if your payment is not until 21 October you have time to change them before the payment is issued. Hope you get things sorted.

It sounds like there wasn't an issue with your ESA going into his account though ? So there would be no reason for the bank to bounce it back. Surely you need to speak to whoever is dealing with his affairs to pay you the money and then arrange with Uc to have your payments paid into another account.
