Should a solicitor be doing this?

Executors of a will. Not informing the main beneficiary that an extended family member has queried something or what that query is. Ignoring emails from that person when asked what the situation is. The person making the queries isn't named in the will, extended family.

If the person enquiring is not a beneficiary then I would have thought the solicitor is entitled to ignore them? The client is the deceased person and the fee for the work, to the solicitor as executor, would come out of the estate of the deceased.

Costs for any extra work (answering this person) would also need to come out of the estate.

You could call the solicitors association, used to be called the Law Society, if you feel a principle is not correct?

They're entitled to ignore someone who isn't a beneficiary and has no right to information.

That literally is like me reading about someones death in a newspaper and asking questions of solicitor. I'd like to think they would ignore them! Once the will is settled at that point you can purchase a copy online and challenge it if required.

How would anyone know that someone has raised a query if the solicitor hasn’t told the main beneficiary? Who else would the solicitor be communicating with but the beneficiaries?

Not entirely sure what you mean

If someone has died and a solicitor has received a query which may involve a claim against the estate, it wouldn’t be correct to ignore it

If it’s like gossip, then no need to answer questions
