Asking this for a friend..no really.... A friend of mine was left £4,000 in a will from an elderly lady but when she died there was no spare money in her estate. All of it was wrapped up in her London property which she left to someone else. That person is keeping the property so I presume my friend is not entitled to anything?

I believe that the £4k would need to be released from the property, so whoever has that would need to sell it or find another way to give the £4k.

It depends on the exact wording of the will and where the cash was to come from. For example if the will said money to X but property to Y I believe if there is no cash then X doesn’t get anything.

Yes it completely depends on the phrasing in the will.

Thank you guys. I think you've all covered it. I'll get back to her
