Job while on maternity?

Hey everyone 👋🏼

So I'm a qualified primary school teacher with 3 years experience and am now on maternity leave but have left my previous school already.

My statutory maternity pay runs out in December and it looks like I'll be in a position to work a couple of days a week from February.

Obviously this is an awkward time to be starting a new teaching position, especially if only part time and I'd be amazed if there was anything available around here anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions for jobs that would be suitable for me and make use of my skills/qualifications? I'd really like to ensure that of time away from my baby is worthwhile so am reluctant to apply for minimum wage jobs that I'm overqualified for. I know tutoring is an option but want to explore alternatives as well.

Thanks in advance!

Would you consider nannying or other childcare provision? That could mean you keep the baby with you.

@prettyprinceofpartiez my own nanny is a former primary school teacher which is why I'm suggesting it Smile

Professional training and development providers, in house learning and development rolls, coaching. You would be amazed how many roles require people who can up skill others.

Do a skills audit nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/skills-assessment this can suggest careers you hadn’t thought of.

You will have a lot of soft skills that translate e.g. mediation, customer service (higher level not call centre), HR, Health and Safety.
