I work part time 3 days per week earning less then 11k also have married allowed. Ive just taken in a second job doing bar work on the bank and am now paying tax on it. I earnt £49 at the weekend but after tax I only got paid £39! I don't even earn enough to pay tax on my main job. Is this even right?

It will be the emergency tax code, it will be changed once everythings been processed properly at the tax office.

HMRC always apply BR tax code to your non main job initially. If you ring them they can split your allowances over the two jobs as needed.

Even with both jobs combined I'm still earning less then 11k so shouldnt be paying any tax which is why I don't understand.

This often happens when you start a second job. You will get the money back at some point - I once got a few hundred at the end of the tax year which I wasn’t expecting at all!

Ring them, and get them to split your tax allowance over the 2 jobs.

Them = HMRC

You will get it back, you could try speeding it up by calling HMRC. The payroll department cant change your tax code until they get notice from HMRC.

Ring HMRC and spilt your tax code across both jobs.

Danikm151 · 16/08/2021 13:37

Call HMRC and ask for your tax code to be split between the 2 jobs.
I used to do this and a rebate will be sorted for any tax you have paid
