Best Ethical / vegan companies to invest in

I want to buy some shares in an ethical company for my vegan son’s 18th. Any suggestions from anyone who knows this market? Doesn’t have to make much if anything, it’s just to pique his interest.
Tia.

There are platforms like AJBell that where you buy shares in a range of funds, they have a green/ethical one I seem to remember. There are fees, but still beats other savings accounts. Not sure if thats what you are looking for.

Thanks @MistySkiesAfterRain, I have ISAs through them, no it was more particular companies rather than funds I was hoping for advice on. I have found a vegan financial advisor who has written about the companies he invests in, that sort of thing, was just wondering if anyone closer to home had any suggestions as he’s focused on Canada.

Tesla?
Not sure it hits all the ethical indicators without some hypocrisy & I'm not sure any company does TBH, but they do stand behind an environmental message, use vegan-friendly materials for the car interiors etc, & they are definitely an 'exciting' company to own/feel a part of - which if you are after piquing his interest is probably more important.

You can buy them on the Freetrade platform in the UK.

Thanks @FurierTransform yes I thought Tesla, I’ll have a look

Buy him shares in Oatly (the oat milk producer), they went public on the Nasdaq earlier this year. What about Beyond Meat? Also listed on the Nasdaq. Have you looked at thematic ETFs?

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 29/07/2021 12:15

@Hermione101 I was looking at Oatly last night as he loves their milk Grin
Is buying on the Nasdaq easy? I’ve only bought ftse shares before. They’re Swedish aren’t they?
And wtf are thematic etfs Grin

Yes Oatly is Swedish. You can buy U.S. single stocks through many different platforms. I think someone recommended Free Trade, another example is interactive investor. Buying on these platforms is like buying ftse stocks, although the exchange rate and currency fluctuations affect returns.

Thematic ETFs are exchange traded funds that look at trends and themes. So instead of buying Tesla, you have electric vehicle ETFs which may contain Tesla, but also other EV car makers and supporting companies. There are many different kinds of ETFs, solar, clean energy, space etc…they’re bought, sold, and traded like stocks. One thing: not all US listed ETFs are available to buy in the U.K., but there are plenty in the electric vehicle, solar, clean tech, ESG space. Great gift for your son, hopefully he can make some money from the investment too!

Thanks, I’ll look into those.
I hope he thinks it’s a good idea, I’m also going to give him some funds for ‘Lend with care’ so someone else can benefit from his birthday. He really does want to save the world so I think he’ll like that.

I would google Cobalt Mining in the Congo prior to investing in Tesla as an ethical company!
