Anyone ever successfully fought an insurance claim that had been denied?

Dh and I need to fight one, but we know it's going to be an uphill struggle and emotionally exhausting. We will also need professional help. Just have to motivate ourselves to get started.

Ours is a claim on critical illness insurance.

Ooof, no, but best of luck.

We're moving, and had our mortgage call last night... it took three hours and I swear about 45 minutes was warnings about critical illness insurance and the various policy exclusions and requirements, it was mind bending, and I used to work in law! The T&Cs are intense.

I hope it goes okay.

Yep they seem to be hell bent on wriggling out of any claims! Bastards Angry

Yes. Threaten to go to the financial ombudsman if they don’t pay up. Worked for us.

MissyB1 · 22/07/2021 09:14

@Buckmoon yes I’ve been reading about the ombudsman and what evidence they will require, I suspect we will be going down that route. Psyching ourselves up!

What's the basis for rejection? Without knowing that it's impossible to help.

CatsCatsCats11 · 22/07/2021 09:21

Yes we did but it was only reversed as the call handler miss informed us.

Do you have family legal protection on your house insurance? Could help

stackhead · 22/07/2021 09:27

You can't sue them legally until you've been through FOS, not to mention how much that would cost you. If FOS rule against you, you essentially have no case.

FLP won't help.

OP - what basis did they reject you for?

notapizzaeater · 22/07/2021 10:50

My sister tried unsuccessfully - they went through the FOS, MP

I have a friend who ended up in hospital whilst on holiday in America. Their insurance wouldn't pay out and the hospital bill was several hundred thousand dollars.

The insurance company refused on the basis of it being an existing condition because friend had been to their doctors about two weeks before the holiday complaining of pains that could be associated with the surgery they needed. Even though friend was never diagnosed.

Friend took it to money matters through the mail on Sunday and won.
