Mortgage / financial advice

Hi Mumsnetters,
I am looking for advice on how to buy out my partner from our joint mortgage - how do I go about finding out how to do this? Speak to a mortgage advisor? I also have other financial questions. Would a financial advisor be better? Where can I look for one? If anyone has any particular names/recommendations, I would be really grateful.
Thanks!

I would start with talking to your own mortgage company first. It's what I did and they talked me through it all and the steps in the process.

A mortgage broker can advise on mortgages. They might cover the whole of the market, or be tied to one or a group of lenders.

Financial advisors generally advise on investments and retirement planning. What are your other questions about?

Here is a great place to start! Grin

How much do you earn, how much mortgage would you need to buy your DP out? You’ll need to pass affordability checks etc to remortgage by yourself for the whole amount.

If you post generally on what your other questions are you’ll get advice on that too.

Thanks for all your replies. Looks like I'll need a mortgage advisor.

If anyone has a particular recommendation, I'd love to hear.

You can check your general affordability criteria yourself easily - L&C are a good highly recommended whole of market mortgage broker. They don’t charge a fee, and they have affordability calculators on their website: www.landc.co.uk/

Another vote for L&C, we have used them for a long time.
