Salaried worker. If I finish with my employer on 3/9/2021 a Friday, and start with my new employer 6/9/2021 a Monday, will I essentially lose 2 days of pay because of the weekend 4/9-5/9? I don't work weekends by the way.

If it makes a difference it will be a transfer (civil service) but guessing I can't have first day set as a Saturday!

I didn't lose any pay. I am not civil service though.

But both my employers, pay weekly but not based on 7 days.

So I finished Friday at one employer and got my week's wage for that week. Started at my new one on Monday and got the full the full week if that one.

I am paid monthly, but breaking it down into weeks to explain.

Is your leaving wage broken down into 7 days?

If it's a transfer surely the effective date will be the Monday when you start? So you won't lose two days.

@titchy I'm not certain and it hasn't been confirmed it's definitely a transfer (NDPB to CS), still waiting on some details, so curious as to what happens usually when changing mid month with a weekend, I've managed to finish end of the month last couple jobs changes.

You will technically not finish employment in your current role until 05/09/21. So no gaps in pay or pension.

If you're transferring government departments, have you filled out the transfer application form for HR? They'll use those dates for you.

Great thank you, that makes sense. Yes I have but don't have a start date yet so have only filled the first sheet, waiting for security checks to come back then hopefully can put my notice in and finish the rest of the form! It's taking an age.

I'm late to this, but maybe not too late given the speed of civil service transfers!

You can absolutely put a Saturday/Sunday down as your end date or start date and then you don't break your continued service either. The continued service thing can allow a two say break, but easier all round if there's no break at all.

I would advise putting your last date in the old job as the day before the first day in the new job.

Good luck!
