Mortgages and buying houses - HELP, i haven't got a clue!!!

I wondered if anyone could give me an idiots guide - or a link to any good websites about mortgages and buying houses.
We have always rented from our local council, just lately the council sold all its stock to an housing association.
Anyway, we applied to buy the property and have just been told that we can buy for £70.000 (there has been a £26.000 reduction.)
But after doing all of this, i really have no idea if we can even afford this. We do pay full rent, and don't get much back in return, which is why we decided to see if we could buy.
How much would the repayments be on a £70.000 mortgage? Or does any one know how or where i can find out.
Any help would be much appreciated.

My dh looked at charcol.com - they can give you an online quote after you've filled in various bits of info. not 100% sure of the address - it might be charcolonline. Will have a look.

The best website is the Motley Fool on fool They have great articles on mortgages and other money matters. Checking a quick mortgage calculator for a £70,000 mortgage at 6% interest over 25 years will be approx £450 on a repayment mortgage.
