I can't beat the car insurance renewal quote and it's making me nervous..

Has anyone else had this?

I've been taught that you should never accept the renewal quote as you'll always be able to beat it elsewhere but my husband's renewal has come through and I can't beat it using the comparison websites, (except for one company who have some worrying reviews on line so we are steering clear of).

We’ve sometimes had the best renewals from the existing and stayed with them. It’s fine. You’ve tested it and they’re the best.
No need to overthink, saves a job!

Ive stayed with same place for years for insurance as theyve kept the renewal quotes lower than to change. Its not that unusual anymore

thanks folks

The key is to check comparison sites just in case, if your current quote beats them it's a no brainer.

Although, it would be worth calling your current insurer and asking them to better the quote claiming you have a more competitive quote elsewhere. They will normally lower it.

Can you go through Top Cashback or Quidco?

BagORats · 21/05/2021 12:18

Give it a go with a company not on price comparison sites. Churchill, aviva and Dial direct are usually good

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/05/2021 12:24

This exact thing has just happened to me recently. Give or take a quid, my current insurer was as cheap as the cheapest on MSE so I stayed put to avoid the faff. I've never had this happen before! I'm wondering if it's some sort of pandemic effect 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bopahula · 21/05/2021 12:27

Had exactly the same this year. Best quote beat it by £3, but not as hugely rated as my existing insurer. And for £3 it wasn't worth the faff of moving.

torquewench · 21/05/2021 12:35

Mine are all usually around the same. Including the one from my current insurer, but on top of the premium, they want to charge an extra £20 admin fee for the pleasure of retaining my business, so I'll be going elsewhere...

LG93 · 21/05/2021 12:37

Just call your current insurer and say you've got a quote elsewhere for £100 less and can they match it (even if you haven't). They don't check 🤷 if they say no then you just say ok you'll have a think about it and come back to them - I do it regularly 😬

Freshprincess · 21/05/2021 12:41

Mine was the same last year, even when I lowered my annual mileage as my car has barely moved for the last year.

alwayslearning789 · 22/05/2021 16:05

Mine lowered it recently without any hassle by a significant amount.. must be the pandemic effect.....

Scotmum83 · 22/05/2021 22:00

I look up what deals are on topcashback first then work out overall which insurer is the cheapest. You can get some really good deals and it really brings down the cost for the year.
